Who the hell is Charlie Doesn’t Surf?

Short answer: We’re a indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Long answer: Charlie Doesn’t Surf is a band that has been evolving since it’s inception in the spring of 2015. Back then, CDS was a solo project of frontman, Joshua Williamson, based in Anchorage, Alaska. The project grew into a three piece band with the addition of Billy Herbst on drums and Adam Kimball on bass. This trio would go on to record the band’s first EP, Riviera Days: released on December 11th, 2015 at the now defunct Flying Chinook.

Shortly thereafter, Williamson relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota and reformed the band with a new lineup of rotating members. In 2017 the band released their second EP, Something Darker, at the legendary and now defunct Triple Rock Social Club (we’re not cursed, I swear). The band’s next album would be their 2019 debut full length self titled record, recorded with Ed Ackerson at Flowers Studio, and released at the historic Varsity Theater.

Current line up: Joshua Williamson, John Bruno & Wyatt Engl.

Some of our major influences are: Sonic Youth, … And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead…, Pixies, Nirvana, Cymbals Eat Guitars, and Yuck.
